This event was hosted by Pohang City and organized by the Pohang Branch of the Korea Population and Health Welfare Association's "Have One More Child" movement. It was held as the second event following the first one in April.
The event was designed to provide single men and women of marriageable age with opportunities to meet, to spread a positive perception of marriage, and to foster an encouraging atmosphere for marriage.
Eligible participants were single working men and women residing in Pohang City and the Gyeongbuk region, born between 1981 and 1998. Across the first and second events, a total of 40 couples, or 80 individuals, participated, resulting in 15 couples being matched and achieving a matching rate of approximately 38%.
The program included a variety of activities such as ice-breaking, small group talks, a Heart Connection quiz game, a flower class, and one-on-one rotation talks, allowing participants to get to know each other naturally.
Participant Mr. B said, "Although the weather was bad, I participated with anticipation since I had been waiting for this event for a long time. Because my daily life is limited in scope, I have few opportunities to meet various people, so I am grateful that Pohang City provided this opportunity."
Baek Jeongsuk, head of the Pohang Branch of the Korea Population and Health Welfare Association's "Have One More Child" movement, said, "I feel greatly rewarded when couples contact us after the event to express their gratitude and share news of their marriage. I am also thankful that we were able to successfully conclude this year's event in such a warm atmosphere."
Jung Yeonhak, head of the Women and Family Division of Pohang City, said, "This year, the number of applicants for the event was eight times the number of available spots, showing significant interest. We will continue to create opportunities for the younger generation to meet good partners and work toward fostering a marriage-friendly social atmosphere."
Since 2010, Pohang City has held a total of 40 couple matching events, with 1,920 participants and 365 couples formed, continuing to receive positive responses. The city plans to hold additional couple matching events in the second half of this year as well.
