Jeong Cheolwon, the mayor of Damyang County in South Jeolla Province, visited the livestock market in Manseong-ri, Damyang-eup, early on the 15th to check the price trends of Korean beef and the progress of auctions, and to listen to the difficulties faced by livestock farmers.

At the livestock market that day, Mayor Jeong was joined by Kang Jongmun, head of the Damyang Livestock Cooperative, among others, and a total of 264 Korean cattle were put up for auction.

During a meeting held at the site, Mayor Jeong stated, "To help stabilize the management of livestock farmers who are struggling due to rising feed costs and falling farm-gate prices of Korean beef, we will promote support projects for the interest difference on feed purchase funds and for the feed price increase difference for small-scale Korean cattle farmers." He added, "We will spare no administrative and financial support."

Mayor Jeong also said, "We will improve the environment by paving the aging areas around the livestock market with asphalt concrete, and we will work to prevent livestock diseases by operating a safe and hygienic livestock market."

Meanwhile, the Damyang County livestock market has been operating regularly every Sunday since its first auction in October 1994, with an average of 300 Korean cattle traded per session.

Equipped with an electronic auction system, the market records approximately 16,000 transactions annually, contributing to the increase in income for local livestock farmers.
