Admission for Companion Animals Allowed, Free Pet Stroller Rentals Available
The Hwarang Art Fair in Suwon, organized by the Korea Gallery Association, will open at the Suwon Convention Center from June 26 to 29.
This year, a total of 104 galleries from across the country will participate, exhibiting around 3,000 works by approximately 600 artists, ranging from emerging to established figures. Notably, this year’s event will allow visitors to bring their companion animals, enhancing convenience for attendees. Free pet strollers will be available for rent in the first-floor lobby of the exhibition hall. To rent a stroller, visitors must present the 'MAJOONG PASS,' a mobile ID for companion animals.
The Hwarang Art Fair in Suwon aims to invigorate the art market in southern Gyeonggi Province and supplement the art distribution structure, which is currently centered on Seoul.
To this end, the fair will showcase a diverse spectrum of artistic worlds, ranging from young artists who are attracting attention in the art scene to seasoned veterans. Among the young artists are Heo Bori (Gallery Planet), who explores daily life through sculptural language; Ji Geunwook (Hakgojae), known for colored pencil drawings; Son Jihyung (Space Willing N Dealing), who utilizes lines and planes; Yoon Pilhyun (Geumsan Gallery), whose works are marked by playful humor; Kim Bareu (Gallery Ilho), who delivers messages of positivity; and Kang Yujin (Sun Gallery), recognized for her 'swimming pool paintings.' Other participating artists include Seo Jiin (Supportment Gallery), Jeje (Soul Art Space), and Shin Jia (Gallery We), all of whom pursue experimental and sensory art.
Among the mid-career and senior artists, works by Chae Sungpil (Gallery Grimson), Kimchi and Chips (Gallery Shilla), Ryu Jaeha (021 Gallery), Ahn Doojin (Lee Hwaik Gallery), Kim Kulim (UM Gallery), Kwak Hoon (P&C Gallery), and Kim Changyeul and Park Seobo (Saemteo Gallery) will be on display.
Works by international artists will also adorn the exhibition hall. Pieces by Matsumoto Takahiro and Murakami Takashi (Japan), Chen Lizhu (China), Hong Viet Trung and Bui Xuan Phai (Vietnam), Bernard Buffet and Thomas Lamadieu (France), Rene Rietmeyer (Netherlands), Mark Khaizil (USA), and Penelope Clot (Spain) will be exhibited as well.
A special section will be dedicated to artists from the Suwon area. The special exhibition 'Sumun-jang: Your Landscape, Your Taste' will introduce the artistic worlds of local Suwon artists. As part of the 'Sumun-jang Art Fair' project, which connects local cultural creators with consumers, works by 20 young artists from Suwon and 21 artists affiliated with Suwon-based art organizations will be presented.
During the event, a variety of supplementary programs will be offered, including a free outdoor jazz concert 'Lake Vibe,' a wine festival 'German Mi(味)sul,' 'Galleries Night,' 'Kids Art Salon,' docent programs, talk lectures, and more.
