Trump to Hold Summit Talks with Leaders of Canada, Mexico, Ukraine, and Japan at G7

According to reports from AP and other outlets on the 15th (local time), President Donald Trump of the United States has finalized plans for bilateral meetings with leaders from Canada, Mexico, and Ukraine during the Group of Seven (G7) summit.

On the morning of the 16th, President Trump will begin with a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada, the host nation, followed by bilateral talks with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.

In the bilateral meetings with the leaders of Canada and Mexico, the main agenda items are expected to include President Trump's policies on reciprocal tariffs and item-specific tariffs, as well as ongoing country-by-country trade negotiations led by the United States.

After announcing reciprocal tariffs, President Trump postponed their implementation until July 8. He initially imposed a 25% tariff on imported steel and aluminum products and recently raised the rate to 50%. Canada and Mexico, the United States' largest trading partners and neighboring countries, are opposing President Trump's tariff plans.

Although Ukraine is not a G7 member, President Zelensky has been invited to this summit, and his meeting with President Trump is expected to focus on ceasefire negotiations regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. President Zelensky is likely to actively request stronger sanctions against Russia.

In addition to the leaders of the seven G7 member countries?the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and Canada?seven non-member leaders have also been invited to this G7 summit, including President Lee Jaemyung, as well as leaders from Australia, Brazil, India, Mexico, South Africa, and Ukraine. It is currently reported that a bilateral meeting schedule between President Lee and President Trump is being coordinated.

NHK, citing Japanese government officials, reported that the two countries are working to arrange a summit meeting between President Trump and the Japanese Prime Minister on the 16th (the early morning of the 17th in Korea and Japan). The Japanese government is demanding the elimination of all additional tariffs.

Meanwhile, the most pressing issue at this G7 summit is expected to be the military conflict between Israel and Iran.
