482,000 Users Last Year, but Only 37 Parking Spaces
Seobitmaru Complex Community Center in Seo-gu, Gwangju, which opened in June 2023, has been causing inconvenience to visitors due to its limited number of parking spaces.
On June 16, Assemblyman Baek Jonghan of Gwangju Seo-gu Council (Hwajeong 3-dong, Hwajeong 4-dong, Pungam-dong) addressed the first plenary session of the 331st regular meeting, delivering a 'five-minute free speech' in which he called for the expansion of the parking lot and improvement of user convenience at Seobitmaru Complex Community Center, as well as a more active role by Seo-gu District Office regarding the construction of the Pungam Intersection underpass.
Assemblyman Baek pointed out, "Last year, the facility had nearly 482,000 users, but there are only 37 parking spaces. Seo-gu District Office simply tells people to use nearby parking lots, which is a makeshift administrative measure that shirks responsibility."
He continued, "From June 2023 to the end of March this year, there were 855 cases of illegal parking reports and 27.96 million won in fines collected near Seobitmaru. The issue is not simply whether the legal number of parking spaces is being met, but rather the need to come up with practical solutions that allow visitors to fully enjoy cultural activities."
Meanwhile, Assemblyman Baek also emphasized, "Regarding the Pungam Intersection underpass project, Seo-gu District Office should not just participate as a supporting party, but should take a proactive and leading administrative role for the benefit of local residents."
