Kim Yongtae: "Will Resign Regardless of Result if Party Member Survey on Five Major Reform Proposals Is Conducted"

"Hope the New Floor Leader Pushes Forward the Five Major Reform Proposals Without Delay"
"Our Role as an Alternative Party Is Important... The Path Forward Is Reform"

On June 16, Kim Yongtae, interim leader of the People Power Party, stated, "If the new floor leader conducts a party member survey on the five major reform proposals through a resolution of the emergency committee, I will resign regardless of the result."

Speaking to reporters at the National Assembly that day, Kim said, "We must stand against the Lee Jaemyung administration's destruction of the separation of powers, but what is even more important is reform," adding, "I hope the new floor leadership will push forward the five major reform proposals without delay."

Previously, on June 8, Kim had presented five major reform proposals, including nullifying the party's official stance against impeachment and investigating the circumstances of the forced replacement of the presidential candidate.

Regarding some voices calling for the opposition to unite and confront the ruling party, Kim said, "I understand that the actions of the Lee Jaemyung administration, which raise concerns about the constitutional order, as well as the moral suspicions surrounding Kim Minseok, the prime minister nominee appointed by Lee Jaemyung, are both very important issues," emphasizing, "The new floor leadership must address these issues without fail."

However, Kim also noted, "I am aware that many citizens have given the People Power Party a negative evaluation in public opinion polls," stressing, "It is important for us to reform and to become a party that is loved and trusted by the people. The path to that is reform."

Regarding Kim Minseok's claim that the allegations of illegal political funds are a 'targeted investigation by political prosecutors,' Kim Yongtae commented, "If the Lee Jaemyung administration truly wants national unity and the restoration of constitutional order, it should properly recognize the concerns and criticism of many citizens regarding Kim Minseok, and even at this stage, withdrawing his nomination would be in line with the administration's governing philosophy."

Meanwhile, ahead of Kim Minseok's confirmation hearing, the People Power Party is pressuring him to step down by raising suspicions about his past private debts and the process by which he obtained his master's degree.
