Possibility of Israeli Airspace Closure and Airport Paralysis
Overland Travel to Amman, Jordan
As Iranian airstrikes continue across Israel, it has been reported that some Korean expatriates living in Israel are attempting to evacuate to the neighboring country of Jordan.
The Korean Association in Israel announced on June 15 (local time) that, due to the closure of Israeli airspace and the paralysis of airport operations, they have planned to travel by land from Jerusalem to Amman, Jordan, on June 16. The association stated that they will charter a bus to transport expatriates to the border, where they will stay in Jordan for about a week to ten days before returning to Israel together. It is known that there are approximately 600 Korean expatriates residing in Israel.
To facilitate this, Lee Kangkeun, president of the Korean Association in Israel, reportedly crossed into Jordan in advance on June 15 to welcome the expatriates. The Korean Association in Israel will cover part of the bus and accommodation costs, while the Korean Association in Jordan will assist in arranging accommodations.
Israel, citing the justification of preventing Iran's development of nuclear weapons, launched a surprise attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, military leadership, and nuclear military installations in the early morning of June 13. In immediate retaliation, Iran began launching a combination of missiles and drones that evening.
Iran recently deployed new tactical ballistic missiles in its airstrikes. According to Iran's Fars News Agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) used a new precision-guided ballistic missile, the "Haj Qasem," equipped with a high-explosive warhead, in the airstrikes against Israel.
