Democratic Party: "Detention of Key Defendants Including Kim Yonghyun Nears Expiration... Additional Indictments Needed"

The Democratic Party of Korea's Fact-Finding Committee on the Insurrection urged prosecutors on June 15 to file additional indictments, stating, "The detention periods for key insurrection defendants, including Kim Yonghyun, Park Ansu, Lee Jinwoo, Yeo Inhyeong, and Moon Sangho, are nearing expiration."

Chu Mi-ae and Park Sunwon, members of the Democratic Party's Fact-Finding Committee on the Insurrection, held a press conference at the National Assembly on the same day, asserting, "If prosecutors do not file additional indictments, the key defendants will be released."

The committee stated that in November 2023, after former Defense Counterintelligence Command chief Yeo Inhyeong assumed the post, they received a tip-off that the Counterintelligence Command had compiled a so-called "blacklist" document detailing the personal information, political inclinations, and connections to the Democratic Party of both current and former generals.

They emphasized, "The Counterintelligence Command blacklist case is a grave constitutional crime involving a complex mix of civilian surveillance, illegal mobilization, personnel intervention, and conspiracy to commit insurrection," and called for additional indictments of the key defendants, as well as a thorough investigation and punishment.

The committee announced that on June 16, it will file a complaint with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials against Prosecutor General Sim Ujeong, Director Park Sehyun, and the prosecutors in charge for dereliction of special duty. It also plans to file complaints with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office against former Minister of National Defense Kim Yonghyun, former Counterintelligence Command chief Yeo, and former Defense Intelligence Command chief Noh Sangwon.
