All-Out Efforts for Damage Prevention Through Preemptive Inspections
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is making every effort to prevent natural disaster damage during the summer of 2025. In preparation for Typhoon Wudip, the first typhoon of the season, and the monsoon, the city has conducted on-site inspections of areas at risk of flooding and locations that suffered severe heavy rain damage last year.
On June 13, Changwon Special City Acting Mayor Jang Geumyong personally carried out on-site inspections. As a preemptive measure to respond to heavy rainfall expected from the typhoon through June 16, he closely checked the disaster preparedness of facilities and the progress of restoration work at two key locations: the flood-prone area of Wolyeong-dong in Masanhappo-gu, and the site of the retaining wall collapse in Whiteville, Sanho-dong.
The main inspection items included: the cleaning and dredging status of stormwater inlets in flood-prone areas of Wolyeong-dong; inspection of drainage channels and river facilities; resident evacuation plans in case of flooding; and the progress of the retaining wall restoration project. The inspections also covered the overall on-site response system and the management of vulnerable areas.
Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "With the recent increase in the frequency of extreme rainfall and typhoons due to abnormal climate conditions, thorough pre-maintenance of flood-prone areas is more important than ever." He urged, "We will carry out preventive measures without any gaps, such as cleaning stormwater inlets and promoting the reduction of waste disposal during heavy rain forecasts, to ensure that citizens do not suffer any damage."
