Visually impaired pianist Geonho Kim delivered a moving solo performance on June 14 at North London Collegiate School Jeju (NLCS Jeju), an international school located in Jeju Global Education City.
Despite being visually impaired due to Leber congenital amaurosis, Geonho Kim is a pianist who deeply moves audiences with his outstanding musical talent. He was the first visually impaired person to be selected for the Kumho Young Artist Concert and continues to attract attention through his active performance schedule.
At this concert, Geonho Kim performed pieces from various eras, ranging from Chopin to Liszt, for approximately 60 minutes. After the performance, there was also a Q&A session with the audience, where he shared honest stories about disability and music.
Students of the design patent club "Visualise Society" at North London Collegiate School Jeju (NLCS Jeju), led by President Sehyun Kim, are taking a commemorative photo with visually impaired pianist Geonho Kim.
This concert was organized by NLCS Jeju's design patent club, "Visualise Society," to raise awareness about disabilities and support music education for people with disabilities. President Sehyun Kim (a 12th-grade student at NLCS Jeju) and other club members planned and prepared the concert to coincide with the school's arts festival, "Arts Festival." Visualise Society announced that all proceeds from the concert were donated to the nonprofit organization Beautiful Mind.
Sehyun Kim, who organized and hosted the event, said, "Together with the club members, we raised funds through various sales activities," and added, "I hope that our small contribution will be of some help to friends who dream of pursuing music."
Geonho Kim said, "Sound has no shape, so it is the same for everyone, whether you can see or not," and added, "I am striving to convey beautiful, warm, and sometimes even frightening emotions through sound."
Since 2008, the nonprofit organization Beautiful Mind has been discovering children and youth with developmental or visual disabilities, as well as those from low-income families who have musical talent, and has been providing them with free music education and nurturing them as professional artists through its 'Music Academy' and 'Orchestra' programs.
