On this day, Chairman Kim wrote on social media, "The 26th anniversary of the First Battle of Yeonpyeong, our victory is ongoing," and made these remarks.
He said, "Our soldiers risked their lives to defend the Republic of Korea, but the fight is not over. In 2002, there was the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong. In 2010, the Cheonan sinking and the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island occurred. North Korea has not stopped. The gunfire has ceased, but provocations and threats continue."
He continued, "Our soldiers are guarding the sea with the same determination as that day. We remember the victory from 26 years ago. We will not forget the courage and dedication that protected our nation," he emphasized.
Additionally, Chairman Kim added, "No one else can defend freedom for us. We will protect it to the end."
