Proposal for Adoption of Aerospace Complex City and Distributed Energy Special Zone

Gyeongnam Province has launched an all-out effort to ensure that its key strategic initiatives are reflected in the new government's national agenda.

On June 13, Deputy Governor Park Myungkyun met with Soonho Song, Chairman of the Gyeongnam Provincial Party of the Democratic Party of Korea, to deliver a formal proposal for the adoption of national agenda items. He requested Song's support to ensure that Gyeongnam's major issues are included in the national agenda.

President Lee Jaemyung's pledges for the Gyeongnam region include the construction of a metropolitan GTX network, the development of the K-shipbuilding industry, the creation of a manufacturing-specialized AI platform, the establishment of a hub for advanced smart, space, aerospace, and defense industries, and the creation of a land, sea, and air "Triport" forward base. These pledges focus on advancing the province's core industries and promoting balanced regional development.

Based on these regional and sector-specific policy pledges for Gyeongnam and its cities and counties, the province has prepared a proposal containing 100 key strategic initiatives and detailed projects to be adopted as national agenda items.

The main proposals include the construction of an aerospace complex city through the enactment of a special law, the establishment of a distributed energy special zone, the construction of the Geoje-Tongyeong Expressway, the construction of the Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan metropolitan railway, the construction of the southeastern region circular metropolitan railway, the early construction of the southern inland railway, and the development of a Northeast Asia logistics platform.

To maximize the inclusion of the province's major issues in the new government's national agenda, Gyeongnam Province has formed a national agenda task force led by Deputy Governor Park.

The task force is organized into five subcommittees: industry and economy; urban, transportation, agriculture and fisheries; health and welfare; culture, tourism, and environment; and balanced development and safety. Each subcommittee (department or bureau) will conduct extensive outreach by visiting central government ministries and the National Assembly.

In particular, the task force plans to visit central ministries such as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance more than 25 times to deliver proposal materials. They will also continue to provide in-person briefings to local parliamentary offices and monitor related developments.

Additionally, the province plans to focus its efforts on visiting the National Policy Planning Committee, which will be launched next week.

Deputy Governor Park emphasized, "Under the current single-pole system centered on the capital region, local areas continue to be marginalized. For Korea to move toward a two-pole system that can counterbalance the capital region, Gyeongnam, as the center of the manufacturing industry, must play a leading role."

He added, "We will take proactive and vigorous measures to ensure that resolving Gyeongnam's major issues and fostering new growth engines are given top priority in the new government's national agenda."
