Jeollanam-do Aims for Zero Casualties During Rainy Season with Inspections of Vulnerable Facilities

Inspection of Management Practices at Rivers and Drainage Pump Stations

Jeollanam-do Aims for Zero Casualties During Rainy Season with Inspections of Vulnerable Facilities Jeong Changhwan, Vice Governor of Jeollanam-do, visited the Jangjwa Drainage Pump Station in Boseong County on the 13th to inspect the situation in preparation for heavy rain. He listened to the current status from officials and urged them to "thoroughly carry out preventive activities." Provided by Jeonnam Province

Jeollanam-do conducted on-site inspections of major disaster-prone facilities on June 13 to prevent any casualties ahead of the full rainy season.

The inspections were carried out as a preemptive measure, as forecasts predicted that a tropical depression would bring more than 120mm of heavy rain to the southern region between June 13 and 16.

Jeong Changhwan, Vice Governor of Jeollanam-do, along with city and county officials and related agencies, focused on inspecting management practices at vulnerable points and emergency response systems, especially in areas prone to frequent flooding such as riversides and drainage pump stations.

At the Jangjwa Drainage Pump Station in Boseong, they thoroughly checked the operation status of the pump station, the functionality of sluice gates, the maintenance of stormwater pipelines, and the securing of emergency power supplies. They also closely reviewed resident evacuation plans and information systems for emergencies.

During the rainy season, the province plans to proactively inspect major disaster-prone facilities closely related to daily life, such as landslide risk areas, underpasses, riverside parking lots, and river embankments, with the aim of achieving "zero casualties."

Vice Governor Jeong stated, "As localized heavy rainfalls of over 100mm per hour are becoming more frequent due to climate change, preemptive inspections and swift responses are more important than ever." He added, "In line with the government's disaster safety policy, we will further strengthen monitoring and inspections to protect the lives and property of residents."

Since 2023, Jeollanam-do has been working to establish a disaster prevention system by introducing a smart information system for reservoirs and installing 1,075 automatic water level measuring devices.
