Daily Commute by Bicycle Shared on Social Media
"It's really nice to take care of my health... Setting off now"
National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonsik revealed his commute to work by bicycle.
On June 13, Speaker Woo wrote on his Facebook account, "These days, I commute by bicycle every day," and added, "This morning at 7 a.m., I left Hannam-dong (the official residence of the Speaker of the National Assembly), and now I am at Gayang Bridge."
He continued, "It will take about 30 more minutes to get to Yeouido. Then I will start my morning routine," posting several photos of himself riding a bicycle in a cycling suit.
In particular, he said, "It's really nice to regain normalcy and take care of my health," and "I'm setting off now." This is interpreted as an expression of his expectations and satisfaction with the new government.
Meanwhile, at a press conference marking his first anniversary in office held at the National Assembly on June 11, Speaker Woo discussed constitutional amendment measures. He said, "It is important to strengthen the powers of the National Assembly, to include the May 18 Democratization Movement in the preamble of the Constitution, and to ensure that the National Assembly's approval is required for the declaration of martial law, as the lack of such approval authority has been a real problem." He added, "It would be good to include such measures."
He especially emphasized that since the government is just beginning, he does not intend to rush discussions on constitutional revision. Speaker Woo said, "I know very well how difficult it is for a government to start without a presidential transition committee," and recalled, "I served as the floor leader of the ruling party in the first year of the Moon Jaein administration." He added, "It takes considerable time to form a government and achieve stability in state affairs, and various difficulties can arise in the process."
