Significant Improvement in Convenience
for Traditional Market and Park Users

On June 12, a new underground public parking lot with a capacity of 120 spaces opened next to Dongnimmun Yeongcheon Market at Dongnimmun Culture Park in Cheonyeon-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. This parking lot is expected to not only alleviate the parking shortage in the city center but also significantly contribute to revitalizing the nearby traditional market and park usage.

Dongnimmun Yeongcheon Market is one of Seoul's representative traditional markets, boasting a long history and the affection of local residents. However, visitors have experienced inconvenience due to the lack of parking spaces. In response, Seodaemun-gu, in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, has been promoting a project to redevelop the aging Dongnimmun Culture Park and construct a public parking lot underground.

This parking lot, with a total project cost of 35 billion won, consists of three underground floors and two above-ground floors, with a total floor area of approximately 6,681 square meters and 120 parking spaces. On the second basement level, an 'integrated parking control room' has been installed to centrally manage all public parking lots in Seodaemun-gu.

The parking fee is 200 won per 5 minutes, and customers who make purchases at Dongnimmun Yeongcheon Market can enjoy one hour of free parking. The parking lot is operated by the Seodaemun-gu Urban Management Corporation.

The upper Dongnimmun Culture Park has also been redeveloped, featuring new rest and landscaping facilities such as Dongnim Madang, Green Observatory, Mancho Spring, and Maeryeok Garden, as well as walking paths named 'Path of Time' and 'Path of History.' More than 40 species of trees have been planted, transforming the area into a pleasant urban oasis.

Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, stated, "With the opening of this facility, parking convenience for customers of Yeongcheon Market and nearby stores will be greatly improved, and the park's image will be renewed, which will provide a significant boost to the local economy."
