Practicing Low-Carbon Farming
Preserving Traditional Culture
Goheung County (Governor Gong Youngmin) announced that on the 12th, it held the "Bountiful Harvest Hand Rice Planting Event" at Seoho Village in Daeseo-myeon to preserve the gradually disappearing traditional agricultural culture and to promote and practice low-carbon farming.
Seoho Village was selected in 2022 as a target site for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ five-year Agricultural Environment Conservation Program, now in its fourth year. This program is currently being implemented in 65 villages nationwide, with 15 villages participating in Jeonnam Province. In Goheung, Seoho Village is the only participating village.

This event brought together around 100 Seoho Village residents, including Governor Gong Youngmin, and featured traditional agricultural rituals and a hand rice planting demonstration. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the value of Korean rice, fostered a shared understanding of eco-friendly farming practices, and served as a meaningful occasion for communication and unity among neighbors.
Seoho Village residents regularly practice the use of controlled-release fertilizers, weed removal without herbicides, and the installation of insect screens in greenhouses. As community activities, they also conduct cleaning of polluted rivers and reservoirs, plant aquatic plants, jointly collect and separate agricultural waste, plant flowers and trees in communal spaces, and work to preserve traditional agricultural techniques.
Governor Gong Youngmin stated, "I hope this hand rice planting event will not only help preserve traditional agricultural techniques and culture but also raise awareness of the importance of conserving the agricultural environment." He added, "I look forward to voluntary participation based on community harmony, leading to greater awareness and adoption of eco-friendly farming."
