Medical artificial intelligence (AI) company Lunit announced on the 13th that it was selected as the official medical partner by the government of Saudi Arabia and the SEHA Virtual Hospital during the Hajj, the largest Islamic religious event, and successfully completed its AI-based medical screening support project.
The Hajj, held from June 4 to June 9, is the world’s largest annual religious event, with over 2 million Muslim pilgrims from more than 160 countries participating.
Following last year, Lunit once again supplied its chest X-ray AI image analysis solution, 'Lunit Insight CXR', to support the rapid screening and timely treatment of infectious respiratory diseases such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). This supply demonstrates the ongoing collaborative relationship between Lunit and SEHA Virtual Hospital.
SEHA Virtual Hospital is a core institution of Saudi Arabia's national strategic initiative 'Vision 2030', led by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. It is the world’s largest public virtual hospital under the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia. Since Lunit first supplied Lunit Insight CXR to SEHA Virtual Hospital in 2023, it has been conducting national cancer screening and tuberculosis testing programs at public virtual hospitals across Saudi Arabia. In particular, during the same year, Lunit contributed to triage and treatment of emergency patients at medical sites in Mecca and Medina during the Hajj period.
Lunit CEO Seo Bumseok said, "We were able to support the most important religious event in the Middle East based on the deep trust we have built with local medical staff," and added, "Saudi Arabia is one of Lunit’s key strategic markets for the expansion of the medical AI market in the Middle East. We will continue to solidify Lunit’s leadership in the global large-scale screening market led by national institutions."
