Ulsan European Investment Promotion Delegation Attends Korea-Sweden Energy Transition Forum

Ulsan Promotes Investment to Overseas Energy Companies on June 12

The Ulsan Metropolitan City European Investment Promotion Delegation, led by Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs Ahn Hyodae, held an investment promotion briefing at the '2025 Korea-Sweden Energy Transition Forum,' which took place at 1:00 p.m. local time (8:00 p.m. Korea time) on June 12 at the Scandic Continental in Stockholm, Sweden.

The '2025 Korea-Sweden Energy Transition Forum' is a joint event organized by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and Business Sweden. It aims to facilitate information exchange on energy industry trends and cooperation opportunities between Korea and Sweden. This is the second time the event has been held, following last year’s inaugural forum.

From Korea, more than 30 representatives from energy-related organizations and companies, including Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and Doosan Enerbility, participated in the event.

From Sweden, over 70 representatives from government agencies and companies attended, including Tobias Andersson, Chair of the Swedish Parliament's Committee on Trade, and Sara Modig, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise.

The forum featured presentations on industry trends and case studies in the fields of power generation?such as renewable energy and nuclear power?as well as the transmission and distribution sectors, including power grids and electrical equipment. It also included one-on-one meetings with companies.

The investment promotion delegation held a briefing session to promote Ulsan as an energy hub city to Swedish companies and carried out activities to attract investment.

In particular, the delegation highlighted that, following the enactment of the 'Special Act on the Promotion of Distributed Energy' in June last year, Ulsan now has a legal basis to consume locally produced electricity. They also emphasized that Ulsan is awaiting the results of its application to be designated as a 'Specialized Distributed Energy Zone,' which would allow companies to benefit from more affordable and stable power supplies.

On May 21, Ulsan was selected as one of the seven final candidates for designation as a 'Specialized Distributed Energy Zone,' making it highly likely to be chosen as a specialized zone. The investment promotion delegation stressed that, once the designation is finalized, even more companies are expected to flock to Ulsan.

The delegation also promoted Ulsan’s achievements, including being selected last year for Korea’s first hydrogen city development project, building a 198-kilometer hydrogen pipeline network and 17 hydrogen refueling stations, and pursuing the creation of a hydrogen cluster to concentrate and systematically support all stages of the hydrogen industry, from production and storage to transportation and utilization.

In addition, the delegation introduced Ulsan’s ongoing efforts to develop a 5.8GW floating offshore wind farm off its coast, positioning the city as an energy hub in line with the era of carbon neutrality.

During meetings with foreign companies, the investment promotion delegation not only introduced Ulsan as an energy hub but also explained the city’s track record in attracting investment and its strengths as a business-friendly location.

Ahn Hyodae, the head of the delegation, stated, "At this 2025 Korea-Sweden Energy Transition Forum, we were able to gain insights into global trends in the energy industry. It was especially meaningful to directly promote Ulsan, which is emerging as an energy hub, to foreign companies. I hope to hear soon that the companies we met today will decide to invest in Ulsan."
