Applications and Registration for Energy Voucher Accepted Until Year-End
The city of Daejeon announced that applications and registrations for the government-led "2025 Energy Voucher" program, aimed at reducing the burden of heating and cooling costs for energy-vulnerable households, will be accepted until December 31.
This program provides financial support in the form of vouchers, which can be used to purchase energy required for heating and cooling, such as electricity, city gas, district heating, and kerosene.
Recipients can choose between having the support amount automatically deducted from their electricity, city gas, or district heating bills, or freely paying with the National Happiness Card. The amount of support varies depending on the number of household members, ranging from a minimum of 295,000 won per year for a single-person household to a maximum of 701,300 won for households with four or more members.
Eligible recipients are basic livelihood security beneficiaries under the National Basic Living Security Act, and must fall into at least one of the following categories: senior citizens (65 years or older), persons with disabilities, infants and young children (7 years or younger), pregnant women, patients with severe, rare, or intractable diseases, single-parent families, or child-headed households (including foster care).
Notably, starting this year, support for summer and winter seasons has been integrated, significantly improving convenience and allowing recipients to use the benefits more flexibly as needed.
Applications can be submitted either by visiting the local administrative welfare center in person or online through the Bokjiro website.
Kwon Kyungmin, head of Daejeon's Economic Affairs Bureau, stated, "With changes in the energy usage environment and the climate crisis, the importance of providing practical support for vulnerable groups is growing," adding, "We will actively provide guidance and promote the program to ensure that all eligible individuals can apply and receive support."
