Professor Shin Hyunjae of Chosun University to Host Korean Society of Mushroom Science Summer Conference Professor Shin Hyunjae, Department of Bio-Chemical Engineering, Chosun University.

Chosun University announced on June 11 that the Korean Society of Mushroom Science, currently chaired by Professor Shin Hyunjae of the Department of Bio-Chemical Engineering, will host the "2025 Summer Academic Conference."

The conference will be held from June 12 to 13 at The Ocean Resort in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, under the theme "Mushrooms, Inside Out (INSIDE OUT)." The event aims to move beyond viewing mushrooms solely as agricultural crops and will newly explore their potential as part of the ecosystem and as materials that can be integrated into various industries.

The academic conference will feature a total of 12 oral presentations and 50 poster presentations, including: a keynote lecture on mushroom ecology by Professor Park Hyun of Seoul National University; a keynote presentation on "Therapeutic Effects of Psychoactive Components in Mushrooms" by Professor Ki Seonghwan of Chosun University; a talk about Cordyceps by Professor Ha Siyoung of Gyeongsang National University; a presentation on mushroom drying technology by Professor Lee Hyungwoo of Chonnam National University; and a presentation on the use of artificial intelligence in mushroom cultivation by Professor Lee Myeonghun of Sunchon National University.

In addition, several corporate promotional booths will be operated, including "Safety Evaluation Solution Co., Ltd.," a chemical safety specialist company run by Chosun University alumnus Shin Heejun, and "Earth Foam Co., Ltd.," a company that manufactures plastic alternatives using mushrooms. The industrial expansion potential of research outcomes will also be showcased.

Professor Shin stated, "Mushrooms are a resource with infinite potential as a convergence material," adding, "I hope this conference will serve as an opportunity for new research and industrial expansion."

Meanwhile, since its founding in 1997, the Korean Society of Mushroom Science has continued to hold annual summer and autumn academic conferences, conduct domestic and international mushroom ecology surveys, and promote international exchanges. Professor Shin Hyunjae of Chosun University will serve as the society's president until 2026.

Professor Shin earned his doctorate at KAIST and joined the Department of Bio-Chemical Engineering at Chosun University in 2006. Since then, he has focused on the industrialization of mushrooms such as Sparassis crispa and Suillus granulatus, as well as research on various industrial materials using mushroom mycelium.
