The NNA Innovation Award is presented at the ICN Congress, which is held every two years. It is awarded to nurses or national nursing associations that have demonstrated innovation and influence in the fields of nursing, health, or public policy. The award was established in 2010 and was first presented in 2013. The main evaluation criteria include the inclusiveness, diversity, and creativity of the recipient organizations.
The KNA was honored with this award in recognition of its multifaceted policy activities, including the innovative development of nursing policies and continuous efforts to improve the rights and interests of nurses.
In particular, the association received high marks for its efforts to improve systems for the enactment of the Nursing Act, its demonstration of nursing leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, and its various initiatives to expand the nursing workforce and enhance professional competency.
On the occasion of this award, the KNA stated that it will "further elevate the international standing of Korean nursing and strengthen cooperation and solidarity with the global nursing community."
Meanwhile, approximately 7,000 nurses, researchers, educators, and policymakers from around the world attended this year's ICN 2025 Congress, with about 120 nurses participating from Korea.
