Yeongju City Conducts On-Site Inspections at Seven High-Risk Areas... Full-Scale Preparation for Summer Disasters

On the afternoon of June 11, Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province conducted on-site inspections at seven locations identified as being at risk of casualties in preparation for natural disasters such as heavy rainfall and typhoons during the summer season.

This inspection was carried out as part of efforts to activate a disaster response system focused on preemptive prevention. The seven disaster-prone sites included landslide-vulnerable areas and hazardous slopes in Punggi-eup, campgrounds, and the Yeongju Underpass.

At the Yeongju Underpass, which was designated in 2024 as an underpass with an external water risk, the inspection focused on checking whether the drainage pumps were operating properly to prevent vehicles from becoming stranded, as well as reviewing control plans for rainy weather.

On-site that day were Lee Jaehoon, Acting Mayor of Yeongju City, and relevant department heads, who inspected the management of each facility and immediately discussed and addressed any issues that required urgent improvement.

On the morning of the same day, the city also held the "2025 Meeting for Identification and Inspection of Areas at Risk of Casualties" at the Yeongju City Disaster and Safety Situation Room. Participants shared management plans and summer response strategies for 23 designated at-risk areas and sought ways to strengthen the management system.

The city plans to implement both regular monthly inspections and ad-hoc checks during the summer natural disaster countermeasure period, which continues until October 15.

Acting Mayor Lee Jaehoon emphasized, "Disasters can strike without warning, but only thorough preparation can minimize damage," and called for all departments to work closely together, prioritizing the lives and safety of citizens above all else.

Yeongju City also plans to continue its proactive disaster prevention administration by analyzing seasonal disaster types and strengthening education and training in the future.
