"Devoting Myself from the Ground Up
to Become a Modern-Day 'Tainingneunghae'"
The Gwangju Community Chest of Korea (Gwangju Sarangui Yeolmae) announced on the 11th that it has appointed Koo Jegil, chairman of Sejong Medical Foundation, as its 14th president. His term will last for three years, starting next month.
Koo Jegil, the newly appointed president, has served as chairman of Sejong Medical Foundation, overseeing Sejong Hospital and Sejong Nursing Hospital in Gwangju since 2013, and as CEO of Kumho, Songjeong, and Hwasun Funeral Homes since 2003, contributing to the advancement of local healthcare. He has also held the positions of International Director of Lions Clubs International and Chairman of the Korea Lions Federation, playing a key role in leading the Korean Lions organization.
Koo is a member of the Honor Society, a high-value donor group of Gwangju Sarangui Yeolmae, as the 82nd member (and 16th couple honor member), and has served as the representative of the Gwangju Sarangui Yeolmae Honor Society, leading the recruitment of more than 40 new Honor members. In addition, he has served as the first elected president of the Dong-gu Sports Council in Gwangju, chairman of the Gwangju Council for the Barugesalgi Movement, and chairman of the Dong-gu Volunteer Center in Gwangju, continuing his wide-ranging activities as a prominent figure in regional social contribution.
Koo stated, "Lack was the driving force behind my growth, and the helping hands of my neighbors made me who I am today." He added, "I will devote myself to ensuring that Sarangui Yeolmae becomes a trusted and accessible storehouse of sharing for all, a modern-day 'Tainingneunghae,' by serving from the ground up."
