Donation of 271 Blood Donation Certificates to Korea Red Cross Gyeongnam Blood Center
Ahead of World Blood Donor Day
The Republic of Korea Navy Submarine Command (hereafter referred to as "Submarine Command") visited the Korea Red Cross Gyeongnam Blood Center on June 11 and delivered 271 blood donation certificates collected by its unit members.
Submarine Command organized this donation event ahead of World Blood Donor Day (June 14) to reaffirm the precious value of sharing life and to provide practical help to patients experiencing difficulties in securing blood supplies.
The blood donation certificate handover ceremony was attended by approximately 10 people, including Rear Admiral Kang Donggu, Commander of the Submarine Command, relevant unit officials, and Lee Jeongwoo, Director of the Korea Red Cross Gyeongnam Blood Center.
To facilitate this donation, Submarine Command encouraged voluntary blood donation certificate contributions from its members throughout May. Over 100 service members participated in the donation. Among them, Sergeant First Class Lee Taeo (male, 35), a member of the Lee Jongmu submarine (SS-I, 1,200 tons), who received the "Honorary Medal" for achieving 100 blood donations on May 23, also contributed a portion of the certificates he had accumulated to this event.
Sergeant First Class Lee began donating blood in 2016. Despite the challenging environment of serving aboard a submarine, he achieved 100 donations and continued his meaningful sharing by making his 101st donation on June 7.
This year, Submarine Command has conducted four "Love Blood Donation Campaigns," with approximately 150 unit members participating in blood donations. In addition, the unit has set up a blood donation puzzle at the Changwon Center of the Blood Donation House to further encourage participation among its members.
Lieutenant Colonel Lee Heekwang, personnel officer of Submarine Command, stated, "Blood donation is the easiest way to practice sharing and the most direct way to help save someone's life. I hope that the blood donation certificates contributed by Submarine Command will, even in a small way, help save the lives of our citizens. The service members of Submarine Command will continue to do their utmost to fulfill the military's core mission of protecting the lives of the people."
