Village Cultural Festival Marks 38th Anniversary of the June 10 Democratic Uprising
Jointly Hosted by Youth and Residents at Gwangju Jinheung High School

"The Republic of Korea is a democratic republic."


The cry that echoed through the streets 38 years ago is being revived today in the community.

Residents and youth of Sinchang-dong in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju are holding the 4th 1987 Lee Hanyeol Village Cultural Festival. This event, organized to mark the 38th anniversary of the June 10 Democratic Uprising, will take place on June 14 at the Songam Hall of Gwangju Jinheung High School. The program includes a commemorative ceremony, a cultural festival, and a village democracy experience space. It has been jointly prepared by the Jinheung High School student council, the Sinchang Village Education Development Center, and the residents' autonomous committee.


The Lee Hanyeol Village Cultural Festival began in 2022 and has continued annually. Park Byungkyu, mayor of Gwangsan-gu, stated, "This is a valuable opportunity for youth and residents to learn together about the values and significance of a democratic republic," and added, "We will continue to provide support for democratic citizenship education."
