EcoPromise Donates Development Fund to Dong-Eui University
Technology Partner Company Also Contributes 30 Million Won
A company founded by a professor who retired after reaching the mandatory retirement age has generously donated a development fund for future students. On the same day, another company collaborating with this firm on technology also joined the donation, requesting that the funds be used for nurturing talent.
On June 11, Dong-Eui University announced that, through a university development fund donation ceremony held in the president's office on June 10, it received a total of 60 million won, with 30 million won each from Byungwoo Kim, CEO of EcoPromise Co., Ltd., and Yonghui Bang, CEO of BNTech Co., Ltd.
President Suhwan Han, Vice President for External Affairs Imgeon Lee, Byungwoo Kim?CEO of EcoPromise and Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biomedicine at Dong-Eui University?and Yonghui Bang, CEO of BNTech, attended the event, sharing their commitment to fostering future talent and improving the educational environment at the university.
Byungwoo Kim retired last year after serving as a professor in the Department of Applied Life Sciences at Dong-Eui University for 32 years. He now leads EcoPromise, a company specializing in microbial cultivation, which he founded based on his research achievements. In 2008, after fierce competition in a public contest by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy for a Regional Innovation Center (RIC), he succeeded in bringing the Blue Bio-Material Development Center to Dong-Eui University and operated it for 15 years, making significant contributions to the foundation of the regional bioindustry.
Kim said, "I am grateful for all that I learned and achieved at Dong-Eui University," adding with a smile, "Though it may be a small gesture, I wanted to support the growth of my juniors."
BNTech is a company that produces the food waste decomposition appliance 'Rinkle.' It continues to collaborate technologically by applying EcoPromise's patented microorganisms to its products.
Yonghui Bang commented, "Through my connection with Professor Kim, I have witnessed his passion for research and his love for his students up close," and added, "I hope this will contribute, even in a small way, to the joint development of local businesses and the university."
President Suhwan Han stated, "I am deeply grateful for the generosity of Professor Kim, who has brought honor to Dong-Eui University for many years, and of CEO Bang, who is actively engaged in the local community. We will ensure that your intentions are conveyed to the students."
