People Power Party: "First Bill of Lee Administration Is 'Three Special Prosecutors'... Political Strife, Not Livelihoods"

The People Power Party strongly criticized the passage of the "three major special prosecutor bills (Special Prosecutor Bills on Insurrection, Kim Keonhee, and Private Chae)" at the Cabinet meeting on June 10, stating, "The first bill is not about people's livelihoods, but about political strife," and added, "We deliver a strong warning and protest."

Sumin Park, Floor Spokesperson of the People Power Party, said in a commentary on this day, "A government that relies on investigations and political strife can never succeed," expressing this position.

Park further stated, "The Lee Jaemyung administration can now command both the prosecution and the Ministry of National Defense," adding, "It is difficult to understand why they are attempting a separate special prosecutor, spending hundreds of billions of won." Park also said, "The manpower and budget mobilized for the special prosecutor are truly enormous. It is akin to establishing a separate Democratic Party prosecution office," and continued, "They have designated as subjects of special prosecutor investigations all matters related to the 8th local elections, the 21st National Assembly elections, the 2021 by-elections, the 2022 by-elections, and the 22nd National Assembly elections."

She pointed out, "The special prosecutor system was originally intended for the opposition. It is an alternative measure in case investigations into those in power are not properly conducted," and asked, "Now that the government and ruling party are in power, why are they setting aside people's livelihoods and promulgating the special prosecutor bills first?"

She also stated, "President Lee's inaugural address, which emphasized unity, is still vivid. Is this how quickly you begin to separate the inaugural address from state affairs?" She continued, "A government that relies on investigations and political strife, rather than people's livelihoods, will inevitably walk the path of decline. We issue a strong warning and urge the administration to reflect and pursue sound governance even at this point."
