On June 10, the city of Cheonan in South Chungcheong Province announced that it has postponed the opening of Cheonan Samgeori Park, which was originally scheduled for this month, to September 1.
The city explained that this decision was made in order to enhance public safety facilities such as CCTV, and to stabilize the establishment of the lawn plaza and landscaping trees.
Previously, the park had been criticized for being used mainly as a venue for large-scale events or as a parking lot, with only 26% of its total area actually functioning as a park, resulting in the loss of its intended purpose.
In response, the city is investing 72 billion won to redevelop a 173,364-square-meter site, creating themed parks and infrastructure in order to transform the space into an area where culture and nature coexist.
A city official stated, "We apologize for the delay compared to the original schedule," and added, "Since this is an unavoidable measure for the safety and long-term convenience of citizens, we will repay you by creating a high-quality park."
