The Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation and the Korea National Park Service have launched a safety inspection of a section of the access road experiencing subsidence within Sobaeksan National Park in Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.
On the 10th, the Corporation announced that, together with the Central Regional Headquarters of the Korea National Park Service, it had conducted a joint safety inspection of the ground subsidence site on the Heebang entrance road of Sobaeksan. This inspection is a follow-up measure based on a business agreement signed by the two organizations last year. It was arranged to ensure the safety of infrastructure within the national park and to establish systematic maintenance and management.
Sobaeksan has many road sections built on steep terrain, and there are also areas with soil and sand-based ground, rather than bedrock. In particular, the entrance road toward Heebangsa runs alongside a valley, making the ground susceptible to weakening due to moisture infiltration or drainage issues.

The Corporation and the Park Service visually checked for road subsidence and also conducted a ground investigation using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).
Given that this section experiences heavy vehicle traffic, the inspection focused on traffic safety. Based on the inspection results, the Corporation and the Park Service plan to prepare repair and reinforcement works, as well as long-term maintenance strategies.
Kwon Cheolhwan, head of the Chungcheong Regional Headquarters at the Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation, stated, "Through ongoing exchange and close cooperation with the Park Service, we will take the lead in creating a park environment where the public can feel safe and secure."
