Incheon City Launches 'Neulbom School' Program to Minimize After-School Care Gaps for Elementary Students

Incheon City is launching the 'Neulbom School' program in earnest in collaboration with local universities to minimize after-school care gaps for elementary school students.


According to the city on June 10, Gyeongin National University of Education will serve as the lead university, overseeing the overall plan for this project. Six universities?Incheon National University, Inha University, Gyeongin Women's College, Jaeneung College, Cheongwoon University (campus), and Anyang University (campus)?will develop customized educational programs and provide them on site.


This year, the city plans to develop around 100 Neulbom programs and train approximately 1,000 professional instructors. Through these efforts, the city expects to offer programs at 400 Neulbom classrooms in local elementary schools, providing educational and care benefits to about 8,000 elementary students.

In February, the city was selected as an outstanding local government nationwide in the 'University Support System Centered on Regional Innovation (RISE)' project by the Ministry of Education, which supports Neulbom School initiatives. As a result, the city will receive 4.3 billion KRW in national funding annually for the next five years.


RISE is a university financial support project led by local governments, aiming to promote joint growth of the region and universities by expanding the application of universities' high-quality educational resources to the local community. The city plans to support local universities in developing advanced care programs and will cooperate with related organizations such as the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education and Incheon Technopark to ensure a variety of Neulbom programs are supplied to elementary schools.


An official from Incheon City stated, "With our selection for the Neulbom project, we will further strengthen cooperation with local universities and operate a more systematic Neulbom School. We will do our best to provide a better educational environment for students and lead educational innovation in the region."
