June 12, Concert Hall, Culture Center, Jure Campus, Dongseo University
The 2025 Asia Design Colleges Consortium (ADCC) Forum will be held on June 12 at the Concert Hall of the Culture Center on the Jure Campus of Dongseo University.
This forum marks the official launch of the ADCC, which was established under the initiative of Dongseo University to promote educational collaboration, student and faculty exchanges, and joint research and academic activities among leading design universities in Asia.
Inspired by the Erasmus program in Europe, the ADCC aims to create an "Asia-style Design Erasmus" platform that reflects Asia's unique cultural values and forward-looking educational vision. Through this, it seeks to foster close connections and sustainable joint development among design education institutions across different countries.
Speakers at the forum will include Jang Jooyoung, Dean of the College of Design at Dongseo University; Robert Chen, former professor at De Montfort University in the United Kingdom; Watanabe Makoto, professor at Chiba University in Japan; Melanie Saranto, professor at Kyushu University in Japan; and Chen Chien-Hsiu, professor at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. They will share innovative educational practices from their respective universities and engage in in-depth discussions on the role and direction of future design education.
The following roundtable discussion will feature Na Geon, Chief Designer of Busan Metropolitan City; Kuo Jo-Yu, professor at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan; Kim Jaehong, professor at Dong-A University; as well as Lee Seongpil, Choi Wonho, and Lee Yonggi, professors at Dongseo University.
Focusing on the six key areas of collaboration set by the ADCC, the participants will explore sustainable cooperation strategies. The participating universities will also jointly read the "ADCC Design Education Declaration," which outlines their vision and commitment to social contribution through design education.
This forum not only lays the foundation for nurturing the next generation of global design talent in Asia but also presents a new milestone for Asian cooperation through design education. Furthermore, it is expected that Busan, which is pursuing "design-based urban innovation," will establish itself as a hub for design education in Asia and that these activities will serve as a positive catalyst in its bid to host the World Design Capital (WDC).
The ADCC Forum, held for the first time this year, brought together Dongseo University, Chiba University in Japan, Kyushu University in Japan, and National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. The consortium plans to expand its scope continuously, aiming to include 20 Asian design universities as members within the next five years.
