Supply Contract Signed with Asia-Based Shipping Company
Equipped with 'LNG Dual-Fuel' Engines
Sequential Delivery Scheduled by Second Half of 2028
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the intermediate shipbuilding holding company of HD Hyundai, has successfully secured a large-scale order for eco-friendly vessels.
On June 10, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering announced that it recently received an order for eight liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container carriers from a shipping company based in Asia. The total contract amount is approximately 2.4 trillion won.

The vessels ordered are ultra-large container ships with a capacity of 15,900 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units), measuring 366 meters in length, 51 meters in width, and 30.3 meters in height. They will be built at Ulsan HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered sequentially to the shipowner by the second half of 2028.
Of the total 44 container carriers ordered from HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering so far this year, 26 vessels, or about 60%, are LNG dual-fuel models. Industry experts believe that demand for eco-friendly vessel conversions in the global shipping market has entered a full-fledged phase.
A representative from HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering stated, "As maritime environmental regulations become stricter, orders for vessels powered by eco-friendly fuels continue to increase. We aim to lead the decarbonization of the maritime industry based on our differentiated eco-friendly ship technology."
