200 Billion KRW in National Funding to Be Concentrated Over Five Years
Hanyang University ERICA Campus announced on June 10 that it has been selected as a 'Future Growth Industry Leading University' in the Regional Innovation-centered University Support System (RISE) project, which is jointly promoted by the Ministry of Education and Gyeonggi Province. As a result, ERICA Campus will receive a total of 20 billion KRW in national and provincial funding over five years, including 4 billion KRW in the first year.
RISE is a Ministry of Education policy that delegates university support authority to metropolitan governments and fosters an innovation ecosystem through collaboration between local communities and universities. Gyeonggi Province has selected 50 out of 75 universities in the province (25 general universities and 25 junior colleges) for final participation.
For this RISE project, ERICA Campus has set forth the vision of 'Strengthening an advanced future growth industry-leading regional innovation academic-industrial cluster for the realization of sustainable, mutually beneficial, and cooperative co-growth.' The campus plans to carry out the project centered on its self-developed innovation model, 'HY-RISE.'
ERICA Campus has established an industry-academia cooperation system based in local municipalities such as Ansan and Gwangmyeong, and has strengthened practical connections through projects aimed at solving regional issues, startup support, and lifelong education. Going forward, the campus plans to advance core technologies in future growth industries (G7), and foster practical talent and technological innovation specialized in regional base industries (GX) such as digital content and cultural arts.
Choi Jiwoong, head of the ERICA Campus RISE Academic-Industrial Cooperation Group, stated, "Through RISE, we will return the foundation for academic-industrial cooperation and practice-oriented educational capabilities to the region, establishing a sustainable innovation system together with the local community." He added, "As a hub for academic-industrial cooperation linked to Gyeonggi Province's future growth industries (G7) and regional base industries (GX), we will lead the co-growth of the region and the university."
