Bae, Kim & Lee Recruits Former Supreme Court Justice Lee Kitaek

On June 10, Bae, Kim & Lee LLC (Taepyungyang) announced that it has recruited former Supreme Court Justice Lee Ki-taek.


After completing the 14th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, Lee Ki-taek began his judicial career in 1985 as a judge at the Seoul Civil District Court. He subsequently served as a judge at the Eastern and Western Branches of the Seoul District Court, a judge at the Seoul High Court, and a research judge at the Supreme Court. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, he held various positions including presiding judge at the Seoul Central District Court, presiding judge and chief presiding judge at the Patent Court, presiding judge at the Seoul High Court, and chief judge at the Seoul Western District Court. In 2015, he was appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court, completing a six-year term, and in 2022, he became a distinguished professor at Sogang University Law School.


Lee is regarded as a leading scholar in civil law, civil procedure, and intellectual property rights. During his judicial tenure, he authored numerous commentaries?such as the Annotated Civil Law, Annotated Civil Procedure Law, and Annotated Civil Execution Law?which are considered essential reading for practitioners, as well as many academic papers. As a Supreme Court Justice, he also contributed valuable precedents in the field of intellectual property rights.


Lee Ki-taek is expected to strengthen the Litigation Group and the Litigation Support Team at Bae, Kim & Lee. The Litigation Support Team is an organization that consolidates the firm’s litigation capabilities. Led by Managing Partner Song Woochul (16th class), a former presiding judge at the Seoul High Court and chief research judge at the Supreme Court, the team includes former Supreme Court Justice Cha Hansung (7th class); attorney Lee Injae (9th class), former chief judge at the Seoul Central District Court; attorney Kang Yonghyun (10th class), who has served as president of the Korean Criminal Case Law Research Association, the Korean Civil Execution Law Association, and the Korean Civil Procedure Law Association; attorney Noh Youngbo (10th class), an expert in bankruptcy law who has served as presiding judge at the Seoul High Court and president of the Bankruptcy Law Research Association; and attorney Hong Kitae (17th class), former president of the Judicial Policy Research Institute.


Song Woochul, head of the Litigation Support Team at Bae, Kim & Lee, stated, "With the addition of former Supreme Court Justice Lee Ki-taek, our litigation capabilities have been significantly strengthened," adding, "We will work together to resolve our clients’ concerns by providing the highest level of legal services befitting our reputation as a leader in litigation."
