National Police Agency to Host Science-Based Policing Idea Contest

The National Police Agency announced on June 10 that it will co-host the "11th Science-Based Policing Idea Contest" together with the Ministry of Science and ICT.

National Police Agency to Host Science-Based Policing Idea Contest

The Science-Based Policing Idea Contest is held annually to discover innovative ideas for public safety, enhancing investigative capabilities for crimes affecting people's livelihoods, and strengthening on-site response capabilities, as well as to raise public interest in science-based policing.

This year's contest is open for submissions through the Science-Based Policing Promotion Center website until July 20. Any citizen or police officer interested in science-based policing is eligible to participate.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in October in conjunction with the International Police Industry Expo. A total of 13 outstanding entries will be selected through a two-stage evaluation process: a preliminary document screening and a final on-site presentation and evaluation. The grand prize winner will receive the Prime Minister's Award and a cash prize of 5 million won. Two first prizes will be awarded by the Minister of Science and ICT, each with a prize of 3.5 million won. The excellence awards will be presented by the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency and the President of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, with two recipients each receiving 1.2 million won. The encouragement awards will be presented by the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, the President of the Korean National Police University, and the Director of the Science-Based Policing Promotion Center, with three recipients for each, each receiving 500,000 won.

An official from the National Police Agency stated, "We hope for active interest and participation, as the proposed ideas are expected to contribute to solving public safety and policing issues, including crimes affecting people's livelihoods, in the future."
