Held from September 26 to November 18
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 10th that it has signed a business agreement to sponsor the "5th Seoul Urban Architecture Biennale" hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Held every two years since 2017, the Seoul Urban Architecture Biennale is a large-scale international exhibition that explores various issues arising from rapid urban growth and seeks solutions through urban architecture. This year's event, under the theme "Radically More Human," will take place from September 26 to November 18.
At the Open Songhyeon Green Plaza in Seoul, large-scale sculptures and various outdoor installations will be exhibited, alongside a range of events such as the opening forum and citizen participation programs. Thomas Heatherwick, a world-renowned designer from the United Kingdom, will serve as the chief director, creating a platform for cultural exchange that broadens the foundation of architectural culture.

Under the agreement, Hyundai Motor Group will directly design one of the outdoor sculptures. The company plans to express inspiration about the relationship between space and humans from the perspective of future mobility, utilizing various materials and patterns in the form of a building facade. In addition, by supporting the creation of sculptures by outstanding artists from diverse fields, Hyundai Motor Group expects to contribute to the spread of Seoul’s urban architectural culture.
Through its participation in this year’s Seoul Urban Architecture Biennale, Hyundai Motor Group plans to expand its design capabilities into the field of urban architecture and actively communicate its unique design philosophy to visitors.
Luke Donkerwolke, Chief Design Officer (CDO) and Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of Hyundai Motor Group’s Global Design Center, stated, “Collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government is a practical step that demonstrates our deep consideration of cities and architecture as a human-centered mobility company. We hope to engage with citizens through the exhibits created based on Hyundai Motor Group’s design and technological capabilities.”
Jungwook Ahn, Director of Future Space at Seoul City, said, “Through this year’s Seoul Biennale, we hope that various ideas about people-centered urban architecture will be realized so that citizens can experience and relate to them. Seoul City will continue to create a more attractive city through cooperation with the private sector.”
