On June 9, President Lee Jaemyung instructed the government to "swiftly formulate a supplementary budget (extra budget) to stimulate economic recovery and boost consumption."
Kang Yoojeong, spokesperson for the presidential office, stated during a briefing at the Yongsan presidential office that President Lee made these remarks while presiding over the second meeting of the Emergency Economic Task Force (TF), where he discussed the government's supplementary budget plans and the supplementary budget implementation plans of each ministry.
Following President Lee's directive, the government's work on the second supplementary budget is expected to accelerate. Last month, the National Assembly passed the first supplementary budget bill totaling 13.8 trillion won.
Regarding the supplementary budget, President Lee emphasized, "Give priority to supporting vulnerable groups and small business owners," and added, "We must carefully identify and implement the core projects of the supplementary budget to ensure tangible results. Please review and collaborate thoroughly." Spokesperson Kang explained these remarks.
Meanwhile, President Lee addressed the start of applications for living support funds for the victims of the 10·29 Itaewon disaster, stating, "Provide generous support to fully reflect the wishes of the bereaved families and victims." Spokesperson Kang conveyed the president's directive, noting, "It has been as long as two years and seven months since the Itaewon disaster occurred, and support for the victims is finally being fully implemented."
In addition, regarding the activities of the special investigation committee for uncovering the truth and preventing the recurrence of the 10·29 Itaewon disaster, President Lee stated, "Ensure that the truth-finding activities are carried out swiftly and thoroughly."
