Achieved for the Second Time Following 2022
Miryang City in South Gyeongsang Province announced on June 9 that it has been selected as an excellent institution in the "2025 Disaster Management Assessment (based on 2024 performance)" organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. This marks the city's second achievement of this kind, following its previous recognition in 2022.
The disaster management assessment is conducted for a total of 340 institutions, including central government agencies, public organizations, and local governments nationwide. The evaluation comprehensively assesses all stages of disaster management?prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery?using more than 40 indicators.
In this assessment, Miryang City received consistently high marks across all aspects of disaster management, earning its designation as an excellent institution. Under the slogan "Safety is the measure of citizens' happiness," the city has strengthened its disaster response system tailored to local needs. Key initiatives include identifying risk factors based on regional characteristics, conducting systematic inspections to prevent disaster-related accidents, and establishing close cooperation systems with relevant agencies and private organizations.
In particular, the disaster safety situation room, which operates 24 hours a day, has been recognized as a core element in establishing a rapid response system. Its thorough situation management has been acknowledged as a model case for other cities and counties, leading many institutions and local governments to visit Miryang for benchmarking purposes.
Mayor Ahn Byunggu stated, "Miryang has many mountains and rivers, and the concentration of aging houses and vinyl greenhouses makes the area relatively vulnerable to natural disasters and fires." He added, "Our efforts to overcome these regional limitations have resulted in being selected as an excellent institution."
He went on to say, "We will continue to devote ourselves to the field of disaster safety so that citizens can live safe and happy lives."
