Police Summon Yoon Sukyeol as Suspect for June 12... "Failed to Comply with First Summons"

The police issued a summons to former President Yoon Sukyeol as a suspect, but it has been confirmed that he failed to comply with the first summons.

At a regular press briefing on June 9, the Special Investigation Unit of the National Office of Investigation at the National Police Agency stated, "Former President Yoon did not attend the first scheduled appearance on June 5, and a second summons has been issued for June 12."

Former President Yoon has been booked on charges of obstruction of special official duties for allegedly instructing the Presidential Security Service to prevent his arrest. In addition, on December 7, 2024, he was additionally booked for abuse of authority under the Presidential Security Service Act for allegedly instructing the deletion of classified phone information by commanders including former Special Warfare Commander Kwak Jonggeun, former Capital Defense Commander Lee Jinwoo, and former Defense Security Commander Yeo Inhyeong.

Furthermore, the police confirmed that the classified phone information of former Defense Intelligence Commander Noh Sangwon, who is accused of conspiring in advance to declare emergency martial law with former Defense Minister Kim Yonghyun, was deleted on December 5, 2024. Investigations found that Noh, who was a civilian at the time, received a classified phone from Kim. A police official stated, "Former Commander Noh returned the classified phone to Kim after the martial law declaration, and we understand that the information was deleted during this process."

Additionally, the police reported that Minister of Health and Welfare Cho Kyuhong and Minister of Unification Kim Youngho were also questioned as suspects on rebellion charges on May 30.

According to the Special Investigation Unit, a total of 111 suspects have been booked in connection with the emergency martial law case. Of these, 6 have been referred to the prosecution, 20 have been transferred to other investigative agencies, and 85 are under police investigation. Among the suspects, there are 29 government and ruling party officials, 62 police officials, and 20 military officials.

Meanwhile, the police continue to investigate threats to presidential candidates. To date, a total of 25 cases have been reported, with 21 of them involving threats against President Lee Jaemyung (then a candidate), the highest number among all candidates. So far, suspects have been apprehended in 11 cases, 10 of which were related to President Lee.
