Kakao Launches Ultra-Precise Subway Service
Available on 23 Lines... Check Arrival Times
Accessible After Updating the KakaoMap App
On June 9, Kakao announced that users can now access an ultra-precise subway service through an update to the KakaoMap application. This ultra-precise subway service analyzes subway operation information and visually displays the real-time movement of trains.
The service is available on a total of 23 lines, including Seoul Subway Lines 1 through 9 (with some sections excluded), the Airport Railroad, Suin-Bundang Line, Shinbundang Line, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, GTX-A, as well as Busan Subway Lines 1 through 4.
Users can zoom in on the subway tracks displayed on the map to identify the real-time locations of moving trains. By selecting a specific train, they can see its movement toward the next station on the screen and also check the estimated time remaining until arrival.
Additionally, by tapping the "View Train Location" button on the subway station information screen, users can quickly view the positions of trains entering that station.
To use the ultra-precise subway service, users simply need to update the KakaoMap app to the latest version (6.3.0).
Lee Changmin, leader of Kakao's Navigation Squad, stated, "For users who frequently take the subway, this feature allows them to intuitively and quickly check subway location information on the map. We will continue to enhance the service by introducing various features that connect online and offline experiences."
Meanwhile, in September 2019, Kakao launched the nation's first ultra-precise bus location information service in Jeju. This service is now available in more than 20 areas, including Gangwon (Gangneung, Donghae, Sokcho, Chuncheon), North and South Gyeongsang (Gyeongju, Andong, Yangsan), North and South Jeolla (Gunsan, Mokpo), Chungcheong (Jecheon, Cheongju), Busan, Gwangju, and Jeju, with plans for continued expansion.
