Starting from June 10, customers who place three orders of at least 20,000 won each through public delivery apps will receive a 10,000 won coupon. This initiative aims to reduce the management burden on small restaurant business owners who are struggling with delivery app commission fees and to revitalize the dining-out market.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on June 9 that it will launch the Public Delivery App Activation Consumer Coupon Program beginning June 10.
If a consumer places three separate takeout or delivery orders of at least 20,000 won each from a restaurant (general restaurant, snack bar, or bakery) through a public delivery app, they will receive a 10,000 won consumer coupon for use on their next order. A total of 6.5 million coupons will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The consumer coupons will be automatically issued based on the number of eligible orders placed through each public delivery app, with no separate application process required. To encourage new users, each person can receive the coupon only once per month per delivery app.
Currently, when restaurants receive orders through private delivery apps, they pay a commission fee of 6,116 won (about 30%) for a 20,000 won order, in addition to separate advertising fees. These delivery app-related fees significantly increase the management burden for restaurant owners.
As a result, the restaurant industry has continuously requested government action to relieve the burden of delivery app commission fees. In response, the National Assembly recently allocated an additional budget of 65 billion won for the activation of public delivery apps.
All 12 public delivery app providers currently in operation, including Baedal Teukgeup, Daegu-ro, and Baedal Moa, will participate in the new Public Delivery App Activation Consumer Coupon Program.
Public delivery apps operated by each local government can be checked through the 'Public Delivery Integrated Portal.' Detailed information about this event, including participating businesses, can be found through the respective regional public delivery apps.
Joo Woncheol, Director of Food Industry Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "We hope that this consumer coupon program to promote public delivery apps will help reduce the delivery app-related costs for small restaurant business owners and also stimulate the dining-out market."
