Aiming to Develop Industrial XR Devices
Korea&Company Group announced on June 9 that its affiliate, Model Solution, will participate in a government-funded project to develop high-performance extended reality (XR) devices.
Model Solution is the affiliate responsible for realizing future technologies within the group's mid- to long-term portfolio, 'STREAM,' which was personally planned and designed by Korea&Company Group Chairman Hyunbum Cho. STREAM represents the group's core business areas: eco-friendly batteries and renewable energy, core tire industry, future technologies, electrification and electronic components, technologies and solutions, automation and efficiency including robotics and logistics, and mobility.
This government project is the 'Advanced XR Device and Component Integration Technology Development Project for Spatial Computing Implementation,' supported by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The total project budget is 20.7 billion KRW, and it consists of three detailed sub-projects.
Model Solution will lead the first sub-project, 'Development of High-Performance XR Devices Specialized for Industrial Applications,' receiving approximately 4.5 billion KRW in R&D funding over 45 months and collaborating with the Korea Optical Industry Agency. The focus will be on accelerating digital transformation in industrial sites through spatial computing technology and securing technological competitiveness to take the lead in the global XR device market.
Through this project, Model Solution aims to develop industrial XR devices at a commercial level. The goal is to ensure convenience, safety, reliability, and durability for users by achieving device weight reduction, ergonomic design, high-definition video, extended usage time, integration of advanced AI features, connectivity with work systems, and hands-free operation via voice recognition.
Since 2021, Model Solution has designated the development of industrial AR devices as a core strategic initiative and has fostered it accordingly. Last year, the company launched the 'MS-AR20SE,' a monocular AR HMD. Currently, Model Solution is jointly developing AI-based smart goggles with AI and XR technology specialist company Vunect, targeting commercialization in the second half of the year.
Model Solution CEO Byungil Woo stated, "Our technological capabilities and commercialization potential in industrial XR and AR devices have once again been recognized," adding, "We will become an innovative company leading the global market by developing high-performance XR and AR devices optimized for industrial sites."
