On June 9, Gwangmyeong City announced that it has begun remodeling the Didim Youth Activity Center, operated by the Gwangmyeong City Youth Foundation, with plans to reopen the center in November.
The center, established in 2014 on the fourth floor of the Soha 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center, covers an area of 627 square meters. The remodeling project will be funded by 650 million won from the Gyeonggi Province Special Adjustment Grant and 50 million won from the city budget, totaling 700 million won.
This project aims to improve the center's facilities and environment, providing a space where young people can engage freely and independently.
The city emphasized that, particularly during the project, it actively reflected the voices of youth by involving the Youth Steering Committee, the Youth Club Federation, and the Youth Remodeling Task Force from the design stage. As a result, the remodeled center will feature a Culture Cafe, a cooking classroom, a communication lounge, a music practice room, and a performance rehearsal room.
The interior of the center will be decorated under the theme of "travel." The entrance will be designed to resemble an airplane boarding gate, while the lobby's Culture Cafe will use blue tones to evoke the openness of an airplane in the sky.

The "cooking classroom" will be equipped with basic kitchen facilities such as an oven, induction cooktop, ventilation system, and sink, and will serve as an experiential space where young people can learn to cook, communicate, and collaborate. The "communication lounge" is designed as a space where youth can freely talk and interact, with ceiling structures shaped like waves and surfboards.
The music practice room and performance rehearsal room will be soundproofed to prevent disturbance to other areas, while also allowing young people to freely practice dance, music, and other activities.
Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong City, stated, "We designed the center so that young people are not just users but the main protagonists of the space, able to realize their ideas and potential. The newly transformed center will become a hub of local youth culture where dreams, passion, cooperation, and growth happen naturally."
Meanwhile, due to the remodeling work, the Didim Youth Activity Center will be temporarily closed from June 13 to October 31.
