AI Utilization and Feasibility... Total Prize Money 15 Million Won
The city of Gwangju announced on June 8 that it will hold the '2025 Gwangju AI (Artificial Intelligence) Design Contest.' Now in its second year, this contest has been organized to enhance the ability of companies and designers to utilize generative AI technologies in response to the rapidly evolving field of AI.
The theme of this year's contest is 'AI × Culture-Centered City: Gwangju as You Imagine It.' The contest is open to creative design works that reflect the unique characteristics of the region in various fields, including product design, digital media and content design, visual and information design, and public facility design.
Any resident of Korea interested in AI design?including design companies, designers, the general public, and undergraduate or graduate students?can participate regardless of nationality. Those wishing to enter can download the application form from the 'Notices' section of the Gwangju Design Promotion Agency website, complete it, and submit it via Google Forms along with images of their design works and materials (PPT) documenting the process of developing the design using generative AI. Each individual (team or company) may submit up to three entries.
Entries will be accepted for four days from August 4 to August 7. Submitted works will be evaluated by a judging panel composed of external experts, based on criteria such as AI utilization capability (appropriateness, distinctiveness, innovativeness, etc.), excellence of ideas and design, completeness, and feasibility. After the first round of document screening, the judging panel will conduct a second round of presentation evaluations (including the generative AI-based design development process) to select the final award-winning works.
Awards will include a Grand Prize (one winner, 5 million won), two Excellence Prizes (each 3 million won), two Merit Prizes (each 1 million won), and four Encouragement Prizes (each 500,000 won). In addition, depending on the quality of the entries, Special Selection awards (up to 5% of entries) and Honorable Mention awards will also be given.
Lee Sinhwa, Director of the Content Industry Division, said, "With AI technology advancing rapidly, this contest aims to promote the use of generative AI in design development," adding, "We expect that this will be another opportunity for Gwangju, the Culture-Centered City of Asia, to further establish itself as a leading city in AI."
