Air Cargo Europe, held biennially, is the world's largest exhibition specializing in air cargo. This year's event drew major industry stakeholders seeking to secure demand, as additional growth in the European market is expected due to escalating tensions between the United States and China. There were approximately 400 exhibition booths, and the number of participants reached a record high of 80,000.
The corporation operated the 'Incheon Airport Pavilion' together with three resident companies of the Incheon Airport Free Trade Zone?Korean Air, LX Pantos, and Hanjin?promoting the air network and infrastructure competitiveness of Incheon Airport, which ranks among the world's top three airports for international cargo. Relay meetings were also held with more than 30 key target overseas airports and airlines to attract new routes to Incheon Airport.
As a result, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on strategic cooperation in the cargo sector was signed with Brussels Airport in Belgium, which is emerging as a new cargo hub in Europe. The corporation plans to utilize Brussels Airport as another bridgehead in Western Europe, taking this MOU as an opportunity. The two airports will collaborate in various ways, including joint marketing and operational support to expand cargo routes, as well as exchanging market information.
In addition, the corporation succeeded in attracting new cargo airline services, such as from France's CMA CGM. Discussions were also held with Bangalore Airport in India, which is emerging as a new global production base replacing China, regarding the establishment of new flight routes. The three participating companies, including Korean Air, also actively engaged in sales activities targeting new overseas shippers and logistics companies, aiming to diversify demand.
Lee Hakjae, President of the corporation, stated, "With geopolitical uncertainties increasing on the Asia-North America routes, which are the core cargo axis for Incheon Airport, due to changes in the U.S. customs system, it is now necessary to establish new growth strategies through route diversification." He added, "In preparation for the global restructuring of supply chains, we will actively cooperate with overseas cargo airports, airlines, and global logistics companies to strengthen Incheon Airport's capabilities as an international cargo hub."
