On June 8, President Lee Jaemyung appointed Woo Sangho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, as the Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs. Lee Kyuyon, former CEO of JTBC, was appointed as the Senior Presidential Secretary for Public Relations and Communication, while Oh Kwangsoo, a lawyer and former prosecutor, was selected as the Senior Presidential Secretary for Civil Affairs.

Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hunsik announced these appointments during a briefing at the Presidential Office in Yongsan on the same day.

Woo Sangho is a four-term senior lawmaker who has served as the Democratic Party’s floor leader and as chair of the emergency response committee. Kang Hunsik emphasized, “He is regarded as the right person for integration, possessing a strong philosophy of bipartisan cooperation. With his extensive legislative experience, he is expected to serve as an effective bridge between the Presidential Office and the National Assembly, thanks to his deep understanding of state affairs, rationality, and outstanding political acumen.”

Lee Kyuyon began his journalism career as a reporter at JoongAng Ilbo, later serving as Social Affairs Editor, JTBC News Director, JTBC Investigative Planning Director, and CEO of JTBC. He is currently a professor at the Semyung University Graduate School of Journalism. During the presidential election, he served as Head of the Social Integration Strategy Division of the Democratic Party’s Future Economic Growth Strategy Committee and as a special advisor for public relations on the campaign committee.

Oh Kwangsoo, appointed as Senior Presidential Secretary for Civil Affairs, is a former prosecutor with a background in special investigations. He was in the 18th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, the same as President Lee. He previously served as Chief Prosecutor at the Cheongju and Daegu District Prosecutors’ Offices and later as Director-General of the Crime Prevention Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Justice. Most of his career in the prosecution was spent in special investigation teams. Since 2016, he has been working as a lawyer.

Kang Hunsik stated, “President Lee has repeatedly emphasized his commitment to being a president who embraces and serves all citizens.” He explained, “These appointments reflect the President’s intention to promote national unity.” He added, “President Lee has urged the new appointees to focus on addressing livelihood issues through national unity and communication, under the philosophy that there are not conservatives and progressives, but only the people and the Republic of Korea.”
