88% of Seongdong-gu Residents Live in Multi-unit Housing... On-site Furniture Repair and Safety Education Provided

Seongdong-gu Launches
"On-site Residential Support Project for Multi-unit Housing"
to Enhance Convenience and Safety for Residents

Seongdong-gu in Seoul is implementing the 'On-site Residential Support Project for Multi-unit Housing' to improve the convenience of residents living in multi-unit housing. In Seongdong-gu, as many as 88% of residents live in multi-unit housing such as apartments or townhouses, so the district is focusing on projects that simultaneously enhance environmental protection, resident safety, and housing satisfaction.

The main program of this project is the 'On-site Multi-unit Housing Furniture Repair Service.' Taking into account the bulky and heavy nature of furniture, which makes it difficult to transport, the service visits each household directly to provide various services such as replacing door handles and hinges, and repairing drawers. Users only need to pay for the cost of replacement parts, with no additional repair fees. There has been a positive response from residents, as this allows for the reuse of existing furniture, reducing both resource waste and carbon emissions.

In addition, the project offers a collection service for recyclable wooden or metal furniture, as well as resource circulation education, including furniture repair methods and how to repurpose wooden cutting boards. The district also operates the 'On-site Multi-unit Housing Disaster Safety Experience Education.' Through hands-on training such as earthquake drills, evacuation and initial response during fires, and emergency procedures for airway obstruction (Heimlich maneuver), the program raises awareness about disaster and accident situations and strengthens crisis response capabilities.

The 'On-site Residential Support Project for Multi-unit Housing' is operated by visiting each mandatory-managed multi-unit housing complex in turn. From June 14 to 28, the program will be held three times at each location, and in the second half of the year, it will be held five times at each location. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis via the designated email address (sbk915@sd.go.kr). The application form can be downloaded from the Seongdong-gu Office website.

Jung Wonoh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "We are proactively promoting support projects closely tied to daily life so that the majority of our residents, who live in multi-unit housing, can enjoy a safe and convenient daily life without inconvenience," adding, "We will continue to improve the quality of life with policies that pay closer attention to residents' everyday needs."
