This appointment ceremony, organized by the Gyeonggi Province branch of the Korean Red Cross, was held with the aim of deeply rooting the Red Cross's humanitarian spirit in the local community by having Namyangju City take the lead in realizing the core values of the Red Cross.
The ceremony was attended by 65 members, including Joo Kwangdeok, mayor of Namyangju City, Lee Jaejeong, president of the Gyeonggi Province branch of the Korean Red Cross, and Jeon Yusin, president of the Council. The event proceeded in the following order: reading of the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross Movement, volunteer oath, presentation of appointment plaques, volunteer uniform and badge ceremony, and group singing of the volunteer song.
In his acceptance speech, Mayor Joo Kwangdeok stated, "The Red Cross is not a single special act at a particular moment, but rather the courage to reach out to someone in pain and the perseverance to stand by neighbors at the edge of life," adding, "The dedication of the Red Cross family is making Namyangju City warmer and more beautiful."
He continued, "As honorary branch president, I will do my utmost to further elevate the noble intentions of all Red Cross volunteers and to ensure that the humanitarian spirit takes deep root in every corner of the local community."
President Lee Jaejeong said, "I am deeply grateful to Mayor Joo Kwangdeok for becoming a strong partner of the Red Cross," and added, "We will continue to do our best to realize the humanitarian ideals of the Red Cross."
Founded on February 17, 1990, the Council currently has 563 members who have been practicing humanitarian values through a variety of activities, including disaster relief, meal delivery for elderly people living alone, and blood donation campaigns.
In particular, the 'Capacity Building Academy,' operated with support from Namyangju City, is enhancing the professionalism and pride of volunteers, while the 'Meal Delivery Project for Elderly Living Alone' and the 'Care Package Project for Vulnerable Groups' are recognized as exemplary cases of community care.
