Over 600 Veterans' Families and Citizens Participate
Reflecting on the Spirit of Patriotism
On June 6, Gimcheon City in North Gyeongsang Province solemnly held the 70th Memorial Day Ceremony at the Chunghon Tower in Seongnae-dong.
Baek Nakho, Mayor of Gimcheon City, is paying tribute to the patriotic martyrs and spirits and offering flowers and incense at the 70th Memorial Day Ceremony.
This event was organized to honor the noble sacrifices of the patriotic martyrs and fallen heroes who dedicated themselves to the nation, and to uphold the spirit of patriotism together with the citizens.
Approximately 600 people, including Baek Nakho, Mayor of Gimcheon City, heads of veterans' organizations, bereaved families, volunteers, and citizens, attended the ceremony, which was conducted in a solemn atmosphere.
The ceremony began with a salute to the national flag, the singing of the national anthem, and a moment of silence, followed by the offering of flowers and incense, a memorial address, a recitation of a commemorative poem, and a performance of a memorial song, all expressing respect and gratitude for the sacrifices made.
In his memorial address, Baek Nakho, Mayor of Gimcheon City, emphasized, "Today's freedom and prosperity are thanks to the noble sacrifices of the patriotic martyrs and fallen heroes," adding, "We will never forget their sacrifices and will focus all our efforts on advancing Gimcheon's future for the next 100 years."
After the ceremony, citizens and bereaved families took time for voluntary tribute, expressing their deep respect and gratitude to those who served the nation.
To strengthen respect for veterans, Gimcheon City has completed maintenance work around the Chunghon Tower and remodeling of the memorial tablet room. In addition, within June, the city plans to establish the first-ever 'dedicated veterans' room' in North Gyeongsang Province at the municipal memorial park. Various policies to enhance the welfare of veterans' families are also being continuously pursued.
A city official stated, "Through this Memorial Day Ceremony, it became a meaningful occasion for citizens to reflect on the spirit of patriotism and to share respect and gratitude for those who served the nation."
