On this day, Sejong Mayor Choi Minho, national merit recipients and their families, Superintendent of Education Choi Gyojin, local National Assembly members, city council members, and about 500 citizens attended the ceremony held at the plaza in front of the Chunyeongtap Memorial Tower.
According to Sejong City, at exactly 10:00 a.m., a nationwide silent tribute was observed to honor those who devoted their youth and lives for freedom and peace, followed by a rifle salute by the Sejong City Guard. Afterwards, soprano Kim Sujeong, Sejong City's honorary ambassador, led the singing of the national anthem. Representatives from organizations, groups, and students participated together in laying flowers and offering incense, expressing their respect and remembrance.
In particular, Lee Hyun, a third-year student at Sejong High School and a descendant of the late Baek Unhan, an independence activist posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, recited poet Lee Haein's "Let Us All Become Green Peace," reflecting on the meaning of noble sacrifice.
Choi Minho, Mayor of Sejong, stated, "Memorial Day is not only a day to remember the past, but also a day to strengthen our resolve for a better future based on the meaning of noble sacrifice," and added, "We will carry on the spirit of those who protected this land as a communal asset of our citizens."
